Early Summer Garden Update 2016 - All Videos

Summer time is traditionally the "best time" for the backyard garden. It's great for many reasons, such as being able to see real, significant growth of your garden, as well as being able to enjoy the warmer weather that isn't always available during the fall, winter, and even spring months.

Over the course of the year, I had produced quite a few videos showing the early summer update. Given that 2016 is coming to a close, I thought I would put all of these together in one neat article on the Plant-Smart Living website so you can have convenient access to all of these informative videos.

I produced many videos over the course of 2016 - many of which were clumped into garden updates where I was able to showcase many of my beautiful harvests, and discuss how you can grow specific vegetable varieties in your own backyard garden as well. What follows is a list of my late summer garden update videos that were published in 2016. I hope you find some enjoyment and useful information in these, and I plan to experiment more with my garden as 2017 comes into view.

During the height of garden preparation and growing season, Farmer Fred has produced a large number of videos to cover all of the seasonal updates of his backyard garden. These updates are presented to provide some instruction and background into the sowing and harvesting of various fruits and veggies grown in the garden - with some helpful tips for maintaining your own garden, too!

These videos reveal the Early Fall Garden Update 2016 - feel free to watch as many as you'd like to get a real taste for Farmer Fred's garden and advice!

15 Great Benefits of Raised Garden Beds

15 Great Benefits of Raised Garden Beds

Raised garden beds are one of the key garden features I like to recommend to people looking to get into gardening. Whether this is your first time setting up a garden and you need a simple recommendation to take to heart, or if you have been gardening for decades (like myself), it is something well worth trying if you have not.

When I first started gardening, I struggled with growing certain vegetables, and always seemed to battle pests and veggie predators looking for a free lunch. Converting much of my garden to raised garden beds has significantly improved the quality of my vegetables, the quantity of my harvest throughout each growing season, and has reduced many natural-but-negative influences on my garden.

How To Water Plants Under Row Covers - Video Demonstration

I have received a few questions from my YouTube subscribers asking the little gardening question: how do you water plants growing under your row covers? The answer is a simple one. Because of how row covers are designed, I can simply spray the water hose through the fabric. You can watch the full video demonstration to see this easy process in action!

One telling sign that a DIY project instructional is useful is if the information provided can be replicated. With Plant-Smart Living, we have set as a goal to provide valuable and useful information that you can apply to your every day life. One of our popular videos and articles has been How To Build a Backyard Fountain for Your Garden or Patio for Under 65 Dollars. As PSL has been created as a team effort, with most of us behind the scenes, we decided to try a little experiment in one of our backyards to put Farmer Fred's instructional to the test.

While most of the team does not have the deep rooted experience of Fred, having worked as an independent contractor for decades, his How To guide provides enough detail for someone (like myself) to take on a first backyard project with great success. I decided to test the waters and install a backyard water fountain for under 200$ dollars. Of course, you may notice the cost is a little bit higher than the original, and the main reason for this is because I opted for a slightly larger plastic fountain base and required a more powerful fountain pump as well. Still, I cannot complain as being able to revolutionize my backyard for 200$ is still quite a feat.

How to Make a No Cost Mini-Greenhouse

How to Make a No Cost Mini-Greenhouse

A word from the wise: “All things have a cost, but some things cost significantly less than others.”

When I say I will show you how to make a no cost mini-greenhouse, I really mean I will show you how to make the lowest possible cost mini-greenhouse that serves you well by performing its function well.  There is no way to escape costs entirely, but I expect that if you are already living a plant-based lifestyle, you probably have already purchased the necessary products as a part of your weekly grocery shopping trip. Other tools that I use are very standard in any home, so should not lead to a new dent in your wallet forming.
