Can you be cured of type 2 diabetes?
If you have struggled with type 2 diabetes, and the unfortunate symptoms that often plague those with the condition, you have probably asked yourself over and over if it is possible to cure diabetes 2 at all. The short and sweet answer is: yes!
Type 2 diabetes is often referred to as "adult onset diabetes." This medical jargon is meant to convey something relatively simple - the disease often is the result of age and other poor lifestyle decisions.
In the United States, about 29 million people are afflicted with type 2 diabetes - and this sort of large figure is seen in many other Western countries as well.
Even more staggering is the 80+ million people in the US already diagnosed with prediabetes - which, as you might imagine, is a stage wherein blood glucose levels are not normal, but not high enough to be considered diabetes.
The first step to understanding how to cure diabetes 2 is understanding the cause.
For many people, type 2 diabetes is a condition that often (but not always) is the result of bad lifestyle choices. Diabetes (types 1 & 2) lead to your bodies inability to properly use its insulin stores. This will typically result in individuals being put on prescription medications, having to take insulin shots, and have to take diagnostic blood tests often to keep their blood sugar levels under control.
In the modern world, it is possible to keep diabetes under a reasonable amount of control as compared to older times when it could easily become life threatening, and even fatal!
While individuals born with diabetes (referred to as diabetes type 1) generally are unable to escape their chronic illness (but can still moderate and control it), those with diabetes type 2 have an entirely different illness - even if it results in the same effect.
Type 2 diabetes goes hand-in-hand with some other common Western world diseases such as obesity - which in itself stems from a number of other interrelated health conditions.
Remember: each person's case and cause for diabetes 2 may be different, but the cure is universally the same in most instances.
If you personally struggle with type 2 diabetes, you must be able to acknowledge the root cause as you have determined with your medical doctor. If you are very overweight, eat a poor diet of non-whole foods, and do not make an effort to exercise - you should target these 3 core areas to make changes.
You can cure diabetes 2 with Dietary Changes!
The first area of change you should commit to when looking to cure diabetes 2 is the area of the food you eat.
It is a quite simple thing, and something that amazes me time and time again how people can struggle with any number of chronic diseases - yet do not make the most important change in their diet. For many, this is not always simple, even if you know that you need to start eating "healthier," as there is a lot of misinformation out there regarding what constitutes a balanced, healthy diet.
If you are struggling to find a healthy diet to help you cure diabetes 2, I would recommend a whole foods, plant-based diet for reversing type 2 diabetes.
Due to being excessively overweight myself, and having consulted with a doctor who was recommending medication to control my blood sugar, a few years ago I had looked into many different diets to try and treat the cause of my diseases instead of just the symptoms.
As someone who struggled with diabetes in the past, I can certainly relate to the suffering and debilitating effects it can have on your life. Feel free to read more about my personal story if you have not done so here.
But now, the way to cure diabetes 2 is just a step away!
Tell me more about the WFPB diet and how it can help reverse diabetes 2 symptoms.
A whole food, plant-based diet (WFPB diet) is quite simple - and most of what it entails is defined quite nicely by the phrase.
Key elements include emphasizing "whole foods" as a part of your diet. These are foods that are unprocessed and usually contain few (if any) additives, preservatives, etc. A simple way to think about this is that any food that can be grown organically and consumed is a whole food.
Additionally, the real core of this dietary lifestyle comes in the form of focusing on "plant-based" foods.
Many take this into the realm of vegan living - wherein they do not consume any animal meats or byproducts (such as dairy product and milk) - including myself.
For some others, a plant-based diet operates on a spectrum and can include vegetarianism if you are not yet ready to give up dairy products, and some even continue to eat small amounts of meat like former President Bill Clinton.
The reality of a whole foods, plant-based diet for me really is serious business - I advocate heavily against consuming meat and dairy as a part of this diet. If you are serious about finding the cure for diabetes 2 in your own life, I would highly recommend you go the route of veganism as a method of treatment.
It is a powerful yet simple diet that I have seen positively impact my health.

Cure diabetes 2 with other lifestyle changes
Now that you have learned the importance of having a healthy diet and can lay the foundation to cure diabetes 2, another area you can make changes is by adopting a more active lifestyle.
So many people these days are sedentary that is not difficult to see how sickness can creep in. Unfortunately, many are not like this simply out of laziness, but because they work desk jobs for 8+ hours a day that require them to constantly be sitting in front of a computer screen.
The best thing you can learn to do is take little 10 minute walks throughout the day. Just 20 - 30 minutes of walking a day can have a significant impact on your health and ability to cure diabetes 2.
Another easily controlled factors that can contribute to type 2 diabetes include smoking. So, if it's a habit you have, now is the time to quit!
You can cure diabetes 2, too!
As many plant-based doctors and advocates would suggest, many chronic diseases can be reversed or entirely cured. It is entirely possible to cure diabetes 2 with some simple dietary and lifestyle changes.
While it is not always an easy process and you may require a good deal of daily motivating, knowing there is a light at the end of the tunnel is valuable.
