Those absorbed in a plant-based lifestyle know the positive impact of the food we eat on our bodies and minds. The images displayed was assembled by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, and quite easily displays what we know to be the truth: plant-based foods have a positive impact on the reduction of cancer risk. Many foods that have come to be associated with the "Standard American Diet" greatly increase cancer risk.
The precautionary principle, as described in the 1998 Wingspread Statement is: "When an activity raises threats of harm to human health or the environment, precautionary measures should be taken even if some cause and effect relationships are not fully established scientifically. In this context the proponent of an activity, rather than the public, should bear the burden of proof. The process of applying the precautionary principle must be open, informed and democratic and must include potentially affected parties. It must also involve an examination of the full range of alternatives, including no action."
The reality of a plant-based diet is that it is still undergoing rigorous scientific review. However, as we can see in books such as The Starch Solution by Dr. John McDougall, science is beginning to notice the positive impact a plant-based diet can have on health. Much science already exists showcasing the negative consequences of consuming a diet of dairy, meat, processed foods, high sugar, and high salt content. Preservatives, additives, and other chemicals when paired with these things do not do anything to positively impact the food, aside from making it last longer. But what is the point in having food that lives longer than we do?
Have you switched to a plant-based diet? If so, have you noticed any positive impacts on your health? I personally have seen many benefits when I changed over to a plant-based lifestyle 3 years ago. It changed me both inside and out. The topic of cancer touches me on a personal level as I have seen loved ones pass away from it, and also from poor dietary and lifestyle choices. It is a powerful thing when one can visualize just how significant the foods we eat are. I hope you are able to take something useful and educational away from reviewing this chart.
